PaperBack, 496 Pages
YA fiction/ Sci-FI
By: Patrick Ness
💉 This book has been on my list for more than 2 years and I kept procrastinating, this meant two things:
1- This is the kind of book that you keep postponing only to end up regretting not reading it earlier!
2- I was so happy I waited because the 10th edition was released recently, and talk about aesthetics!! The cover is gorgeous, The paper edges are black giving a splendid end result. Many of my non-reader friends said that this is their favorite among the books they have seen me read.
💉 The Synopsis:
Prentisstown isn’t like other towns. Everyone can hear everyone else’s thoughts in an overwhelming, never-ending stream of Noise. Just a month away from the birthday that will make him a man, Todd and his dog, Manchee — whose thoughts Todd can hear too, whether he wants to or not — stumble upon an area of complete silence. They find that in a town where privacy is impossible, something terrible has been hidden — a secret so awful that Todd and Manchee must run for their lives.
But how do you escape when your pursuers can hear your every thought?
💉 The World building: 💊💊💊💊💊
As the synopsis implies, there was much focus on the world building. the story takes place in a world where people can hear each others thoughts, an idea that has always fascinated me, but when we think about those things we look at the bright side. The author here excelled at showing the dark side too.
Not only that, but the formatting of the book helps with this where those thoughts are written in a bold and a different font.
💉 The Characters: 💊💊💊💊
I love how Ness has been able to feature a full cast of characters and making them all fleshed out and realistic enough for that world. The author’s execution was top notch for the said world and how it affects our characters.
Todd our MC is peculiar because he is the youngest boy in town and he is pure and lovely although he swears a lot.
Then we have Manchee which may be my favorite dog in a book ever, and with the mentioned world building where animals can talk. Manchee was the cutest cupcake ever ❤ ❤
The only downside is that I think the author could have used more physical descriptions because they were not so clear.
💉 The Pacing: 💊💊💊💊💊
I love a story with fast pacing, this was almost 480 pages long but I flew through this and with each chapter ending with a cliffhanger, you won’t be able to let go of this knife, sorry I meant book!
💉 Conclusion:
This book has the magic of the past, where books where really good and authors did not do them for the sole purpose of getting money. It is so innovative and creative and a really gripping end from start to end, I will recommend this for many friends for sure.
