Fantasy/ Historical Fiction
By: R.F. Kuang
βWar doesn’t determine who’s right. War determines who remains.β
π The Poppy War, more like a war on tropes. Seriously people, this was an annihilation for all the tropes I read before.
π I am forever Thankful for Lily for suggesting a BR of this. I have been skipping a lot of books that I think are hyped but not to my liking. This was among them because I thought it was more a historical fiction and I hadn’t thought that it was going to be this epic.
π This was written in 3 parts, the first part was the introductory part were we have the school, the normal life and it really gave me motivation to study harder next year, I wish I had read this at the start of next school year because I would have studied my ass off.
π Part 2 was when fantasy elements were beginning to appear more and it was the cool part that I thought we were never going to have in this book. This was a bit less amusing than part 1 but it was still good.
π Part 3 was the darkest thing I have ever read. I was standing on my tiptoes and I had goosebumps, I also hadn’t expect this to be this dark also I saw this in many reviews but it exceeded the expectations I had in mind.
π But this has Asian mythology, Gods, Shaman, supernatural things, strategy and war. This is a ruthless books were many characters die, where characters take bad decisions that they are forced to take. This has no romance -and that is a plus for me because it would have destroyed the whole dark war theme-.
π If you are looking for a light, fluffy read then this is NOT what you are looking for.
π Lily also pointed out that this was a trilogy -I knew that- but the more important thing is that it was written by R.F. Kuang who is Freaking 21 years old!! I read that she wrote it 2 years ago so she was 19 when this was written, 19?!!! I had barely started reading when I was 19 and that made this even more amazing for me.
π The writing style was very good and easy to read even if this was a bit heavy. The characters were good, not annoying and not stupid as many MC are.
π The pacing was also good, I can’t decide if it is fast or slow but it wasn’t boring anyway. I think it was somewhere in between. Some of the plot twists were expect-able but the author was good at plotting and foreshadowing too. This was better than I expected and I ended up giving it 4 out of 5 stars!
βThey were monsters!” Rin shrieked. “They were not human!”
“Have you ever considered” he said slowly “that that was exactly what they though of us?β

It has magic and darkness and all the things I like but the synopsis didn’t do it justice. Add the age of the author and it sure is a great book! Thanks

WOW 19 when she wrote it???? I am impressed! Now I think Sarah J Maas was around16 when she wrote her first book too so I guess talent does not ask for age π

No wonder all the guys looks like they are written by a teenager girl!
