And it begins, as so many stories do, with a dead girl.

🌟 This is one of the hardest reviews I have written this year because I am so confused and I have a wide mix of emotions regarding this book. I will try to break my thoughts as usual.

🌟 Let’s first agree on two points: This is an extremely hyped books (Apparently for a good reason) and it is quite an emotional/ Sensitive read which affects how readers rate and review it.

🌟 I have recently read Fall for Anything by Summers and I didn’t actually enjoy it! while this book was much better for me and I sped through it, it still had something missing for and I still can’t figure what is it.

🌟 The writing is good, I didn’t find many things to highlight and quote, but it was good anyhow. Judging from the 2 books I read by Summers, she is so good at putting a gloomy atmosphere in her books and it strangely fits the theme here. This was written in Sadie’s POV and through The Girls Podcast. They even went and did a real podcast for the book which I am pretty sure will enhance the experience even more. There was also some alteration between the past and present which was kind ofΒ  confusing at first but I ended up liking it.

🌟 I liked the Podcast chapters very much, but Sadie’s not very much. And that was the reason I deduced from my star rating. I know Sadie is a troubled girl and I know her life was not easy at all, but there were some decisions that she did and annoyed me. But was it unrealistic? Actually not, these things can and do happen IRL and that’s one thing that makes me confused.

🌟 I can’t say that there was a major twist for me, It was all predictable and I could see some similarities to Fall for Anything so I could see how will it unfold. But twists are not the core of this type of stories, which once again, made it harder for me to decide my feelings toward this.
I also can see some readers hating the ending but I thought it was the best ending for a story like this.

🌟 I was also discussing this earlier this morning with a friend. Was this enjoyable? Was it supposed to be enjoyable? Apparently it is a sad and an important story/ topic but does it being serious mean I should not find it enjoyable?!. I mean THUG was important but it was enjoyable while here it was not as enjoyable as much. (How many times did I just say enjoyable :P)

🌟 So when I think of the elements of this book separately, they were all very good and befitting for this story but when I judge upon how I felt about the book as a whole, then it is a little bit less that. I decided to give this 3.75-4 out of 5 stars!

🌟 Summary & Prescription: A good story with important topics, kind of heavy and dark. I recommend it for everyone and specially parents!

  1. I’ve seen this one everywhere but I haven’t actually put in on my TBR pile yet. I think if someone handed me a free copy of the book I would read it but I haven’t spent any time seeking one out… πŸ™‚ I’ve also been in a reading slump for a while so I need some happy, fun, good times books! But… I like the cover.
