β€œIt’s always a shock, when you’ve been hit by some calamity, to see the world go about its business with perfect indifference.”

🌟 Mark Lawrence is one of those authors that has been on my tbr for ever! I always say I am going to pick up his books but I never did till recently and he has released book after book while I was procrastinating, so now I have more books to add to my tbr!

🌟 The first thought that came to me was I like the writing style, it is easy to read! it was a bit rough to get into the story at first because I was not born in the 80s and I never played D&D which are a major themes in this book! I am a doctor and I could relate to the hospital parts and I did feel that Mr.Mark’s writing came from a long experience and I feel ha has been in a lot of hospitals!

β€œIn hospital they ask you to rate your discomfort on a scale of ten. I guess it’s the best they can come up with, but it fails to capture the nature of the beast. Pain can stay the same while you change around it.”

🌟 I stay away from Sci-fi books mainly because they are either a hit or miss for me, I do like the genre but I think it requires additional mental effort which I am not always willing to give! Mark’s writing was smooth and it was very easy understanding all those complicated theories and ideas! I can say that it was happily a hit for me πŸ™‚

🌟 I saw some reviews mentioning the Stranger things vibes and I had those at one point! They are only vibes though mainly due to the fact that our MC were young nerds who enjoy D&D and not because the plot itself is similar! So don’t go expecting something similar! The characters acted their age and I could imagine them as real people which is cool.

🌟 The story is a short one (200 pages) and is fast paced except a small part where I was a little bit bored. But it was mind bending and it made me think a lot and I have new things for my future nerdy discussions with friends. That was also when I decided that Mark had to be a kind of scientist and after stalking his GR page, he really is so my feeling was in its place.

🌟 Summary: A short, nerdy, mind blowing sci-fi story that is like a love letter for D&D fans everywhere! I think it an be a very good place to start reading Sc-Fi for anyone interested in doing so. I will be reading the rest of the series for sure and Mark’s other books which I am sure shows more potential.

  1. This has been sitting on my digital shelf for too long now and I’m ashamed! But I’d admit that the initial reason why I requested in the first place is because of Stranger Things too. Hopefully, I can manage to pick it up this month and enjoy it!
