βHe fit so perfectly in the love story I’d imagined for myself that I mistook him for the love of my life.β
January & Augustus attended university together, they both became successful writers. Both are having trouble writing their next book and they end up as beach house neighbors. They decide to stir things up and have a bet, they write each other’s genres and see where things will go from there.
January and Andrew are so precious and I loved reading about them. Romance books are sometimes looked down upon by the reading community as being smut books with no literally value. I disagree and this book is a living proof of how great the genre can be. I am usually someone who is so stingy when it comes to 5 stars ratings and I was really curious to see this book suddenly popping everywhere on my blog and GR with excellent ratings. I checked the GR page which showed that it has 45K ratings already in a very short time and an average rating of 4.12 so I had to read it. I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did.
The writing is great because this was an easy read but it delivered an emotional punch for sure. There were many good quotes (Sometimes a bit flowery but I didn’t mind that) and it delves into very important topics. There are certainly themes about family and writing and how life can go from point A to Z in the blink of an eye. The book is mostly clean (There are a few sex scenes but it was not heavy on smut) and it is funny at the same time.
βBad things don’t dig down through your life until the pit’s so deep that nothing good will ever be big enough to make you happy again. No matter how much shit, there will always be wildflowers.β
As I said above, January and Andrew are great characters that were very well written. We mostly see the story through January’s POV which made her very very relatable to me but at the same time, that does not mean that the rest of the characters were not realistic, I ended up caring about characters who did not make an appearance but were mentioned in the books and even deceased characters!
The plot is great because the book also talks about writing books so that’s a plus. The romance was cute, kind of fast (Not a slow burn as I expected but it makes sense when you finish the book). It was mostly a 4 stars for me but the last chapters were so good I ended up in tears (And here I was wondering just the other day why I haven’t picked up a tear-worthy book).
βThatβs the key to marriage. You have to keep falling in love with every new version of each other, and itβs the best feeling in the whole world.β
Summary: This was a book that I was seeing everywhere lately and I needed to know why. I ended up hyping it too because it really was that good. With simplistic funny writing, characters that I cared about and a cute plot with all the tears! I do recommend this for anyone who thinks Romance is a meh genre!

I ABSOLUTELY ADORED THE BOOK π
