โ€œIt proves that time, distance, and devastation allow people enough
opportunity to craft villains out of people they donโ€™t even know.โ€

I BR this Leslie! It was great as usual!

Another CoHo novels which I believe will satisfy most of her fans. It has the usual mix of romance, poignant prose mixed with emotional punches. This story follows Kenna Rowan who finishes her prison sentence and is trying to be reunited with her daughter who lives with the grandparents who shut Kenna out for killing their son!! Sounds intense, doesn’t it??

I usually finish Hoover’s novels in two days or less and this was not an exception. I find myself thinking about the characters whenever I don’t read which makes finishing her books a priority. I enjoy the writing and the stories has a kind of sadness to them that I like. My favorite part of the story are the letters that Kenna wrote to her husband and I believe you know how emotional they were specially “that letter”. This was such a quick read and I wish it was longer.

What I like about Hoover’s characters is that they’re realistic, they do mistakes and they want to repent for them. They want to fight to go on with their lives no matter the circumstances and that was what I liked about Kenna! Although I sympathized with her, I could see where her parents in law where coming from too. Ledger was a wholesome character that has a big heart and we need more people like him in real life.

โ€œWeโ€™re all just a bunch of sad people doing what we have to do to make it until tomorrow.โ€

The story is fast paced but my only criticism is that the ending felt rushed. After the events culminate in a very emotional scene, things get too fast after that. I like the ending but I just wanted more details about the secondary characters because I felt some of the minor story lines were never closed and I was invested in them like Lady Diana and Ramon.

Summary: A typical CoHo novel with all the usual ingredients she likes: simple and addicting prose, realistic characters, an intense yet emotional story line and people trying to fight their ways through lives. I guess the ending was a bit rushed but nevertheless it was a very satisfying read!
