🌟 Hey everyone, I hope you’re having the best of times!
This week’s facts are all about Bookish Terms. Here are 10 more facts for you:
💉 The word for loving the smell of old books is ‘Bibliosmia‘. Similar to carbon-dating, scientists can analyze the chemicals responsible for “old book smell” to determine the age of a book. The process is called “material degradomics”.
💉 Dr Seuss invented the word ‘nerd‘, using it in his 1950 book ‘If I Ran the Zoo.’
💉 The term ‘bookworm‘ originates from insects who live in and feed on the binding of books.
💉 Tsundoku means “to let reading materials pile up in one’s home and never read them” in Japanese.
💉 The fear of running out of something to read is called ‘Abibliophobia‘.
💉 Up to 50 books can be made from 1 tree!
💉 In America, the most banned books are Harry Potter. The apparent reasons are because they promote witchcraft, they set bad examples and are too dark.
💉 The author of Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie gave the rights of this book to Great Ormond Street Hospital to help fund it in the year 1921. The hospital is still receiving help from this.
💉 Alice in Wonderland is based on a real 10-year-old girl.
Her name was Alice Liddell, and her family was close friends with author Lewis Carroll. While on a boating trip, she asked him to tell her a story — and that’s how Alice was born.
💉 Alice in Wonderland syndrome (AWS) is a rare condition that causes temporary episodes of distorted perception and disorientation. You may feel larger or smaller than you actually are.

Calling myself a ‘bookworm’ doesn’t sound as appealing anymore! My sister-in-law didn’t allow her children to read Harry Potter because she felt the same as it promoted witchcraft.
As always, wonderful bookish facts, thank you. Have a lovely day.
